Small Exceptional Swedish ‘Fållbänk’ Bench from the mid 17th Century
Sometimes, you get the privilege of obtaining and, in a certain way, becoming a custodian of history.
I am in love with this small “fållbänk” bench. Its simplicity, amazing patina, and history mark it as a one-of-a-kind historical artifact, as well as an aesthetic treasure.
The thick, heavy pine wood has acquired a really smooth finish and patina that only the human hand and time can create.
In the mid 1700s, only about a million people lived in Sweden. It is really rare to come across rural, primitive furniture from this era.
Most people only had stools, benches, tables, and some wooden bowls.
This piece is from a rural place in Dalarna, specifically in Rättvik region.
