Swedish Candlestick holder ‘Lyskärring’

Swedish adjustable Candlestick holder, also called ‘Lyskärring’.
Circa 1780-1830.

The patina is really dark and has an almost mahogany feel to it.

This was originally not intended for candles; it was for birch sticks to be burnt and wedged between the metal pegs.

Candles were really expensive, so this was really a poor man’s alternative.

Made out of birch wood.
